In the animation, a detective can be seen before entering a crime scene. We accompany him as he takes one last drag on his cigarette and prepares himself mentally. He lingers in a moment of calmness, with his back to the crime scene to create a spatial distance. When he's ready, he turns around, faces his challenge, and walks toward it in the final scene.
Technique
The animaiton was mainly execution with After Effects as a vector animation with the help of simulation effects for water. Only the scene in which the detective turns around is animated in 3D, but the style is adapted to the vector illustrations.
Project
In this project, an animation has been created with an audio track as an inspiration. The animation is designed in a Film Noir style to pick up on the slow and melancholic piano melody.
Motivation
Criminological films and series predominantly focus on action and excitement. The main focus is usually on the suspense of solving the mystery and catching the culprit. But there is also a flip side to this glorified view of a detective. This project is designed to depict the emotional burden that a detective takes on when he has to deal with violent and cruel situations.
