Description
"Follow Your Gut" originally existed as a longer-form explainer on the gut microbiome. This project adapts it into three short, vertical cuts for social feeds — reusing the original audio and footage, but restructuring both around a single strong hook instead of the original's linear build-up.
The Hook
The original video built its argument step by step, saving the more striking claims for later in the piece. For social, that structure doesn't survive the first two seconds. Instead of following the original order, the audio was re-cut so each version opens with its most attention-grabbing statement — then works backward to fill in context, rather than building up to it:

"Most additives' influence on the microbiome hasn't been researched yet."

"The less you feed your microbiome, the higher your risk of developing [range of diseases]."

"We are not the only ones eating our food."
Each statement carries enough tension or specificity on its own to justify the first two seconds — the point where most viewers decide whether to keep watching.
Bevore / After
The original explainer unfolds gradually, with each claim building on the last — well suited to a longer format where viewers have already committed to watching. The adapted cuts drop that setup entirely: matching footage is pulled from the same source material and re-timed to the new audio order, so the strongest moment appears first, both visually and verbally. Nothing new was filmed — the shift is purely in selection, sequencing, and pacing.

Safe-Zone
Since the original footage wasn't shot for vertical format, key visual elements had to be reframed and repositioned to stay within the 9:16 safe zone — ensuring nothing critical is cropped or hidden behind platform UI on Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube Shorts.

Outcome
This project shows a repeatable approach to repurposing existing long-form content for social: identify the strongest, most specific claims buried in the material, then rebuild pacing and sequencing around them rather than the original structure. The same method can be applied to any existing footage — not just this one video.
